What inspires a person to leave their birth country to move and retire in a completely foreign country?

For some it is lower cost of living (money) and for others it is for the travel. For us, it is quality of life.

One of our inspirations was actually a UK TV show.

We didn’t really believe that we were going to move across the pond until we watched a reality house-hunting show on Netflix called Escape to the Continent. The now 2 seasons show was originally on the BBC One (British Broadcasting Company) in 2014 and 2015. We stumbled across the show on Nextflix and were mesmerized by it.

Brits looking to start new lives in Continental Europe –  France, Austria, Spain and other European countries – went to the country that they wanted to move to and were shown 3 houses of which to buy. During the episode, they learn the pros and cons of each locale.

We were shocked at the low cost at which one could purchase a house (or rent) in France compared to the prices in America.

At that point, we decided to look into the possibly of relocating for 6 months or more at a time, and here we are.
